Downloading a Copy of Your Website

Why you'd do this

A few reasons people download their site:

• 💾 Backup peace of mind. Even though we have our own backups, owning a personal copy of your website is reassuring.
• 🛠 You hired a designer to tweak something. They want the files to work from.
• 🚚 You're moving to a different website host. No problem — we're not in the business of locking you in.

Whatever the reason, it takes about 30 seconds.

How to download

1. Open your dashboard and pick your site
2. Click Settings in the left menu
3. Scroll to the Export Site card near the bottom
4. Click Export Site as ZIP
5. We email you a download link within a minute or two
6. Click the link in the email to download the ZIP file. The link is good for 24 hours

The ZIP contains everything visible on your website: pages, images, blog posts, portfolio items, and the styling.

What's in the download

• Every page as an HTML file (you can open them directly in a web browser — they work)
• All your images in their original quality
• The styling that makes it look the way it does
• Your blog posts and portfolio items if you have them
• Your logo and any uploaded design assets

What it does NOT include:

• Anything in your shop (products, orders) — those live in Stripe or Square, see those tools
• Customer messages from your contact form — those are in the Messages tab in your dashboard
• The AI prompt history — that's in the Audit tab

Does exporting cancel anything?

No. Downloading a copy doesn't touch your live site or change your subscription. Your site keeps running. You can export as many times as you want.

What if I want to actually move my site somewhere else?

The exported ZIP works on basically any web host:

• Static hosts: Netlify, Vercel, GitHub Pages, Cloudflare Pages (all have free tiers)
• Traditional hosts: GoDaddy, Bluehost, SiteGround, DreamHost
• Cloud: Amazon S3 + CloudFront (same setup we use), Google Cloud Storage, Azure

The general steps are:

1. Download the ZIP from us
2. Sign up at a new host
3. Upload your files where they tell you to put them
4. Update your domain to point at the new host (see Pointing an Existing Domain Here but in reverse — point at them, not us)
5. Cancel your subscription with us

Your domain (yourbusiness.com) stays yours either way — domains aren't tied to your website host.

If you have second thoughts after canceling, we keep backups for 90 days, so you can come back.

Common questions

"How long does the export take?"
Usually under a minute. For very large sites (lots of blog posts and images), up to 5 minutes.

"The email never arrived"
Check your spam folder. If it's not there after 10 minutes, email support@siteglowup.ai with your domain name and we'll resend.

"Can I open the files on my computer?"
Yes. Unzip the file and double-click any .html file — it opens in your browser. Just keep in mind some features that need our servers (the contact form, the shop) won't work locally — that's expected.

"Will my SEO transfer if I move hosts?"
Yes, as long as you keep your domain pointed at the new host. Google ranks domains, not hosts. If mybusiness.com keeps showing your website (anywhere), your rankings are unaffected.
