Showcasing Your Work With a Portfolio

3 min read

Who this is for

People who hire service businesses want to see your work before they call. A portfolio is the strongest "trust me" signal you can put on your website. If you're any of these, you should have one:

  • 🔨 Contractors and tradespeople — before/after photos of renovations, repairs, builds
  • 🎨 Designers — logos, brand identities, websites, packaging
  • 📷 Photographers — wedding shoots, family sessions, product shoots
  • 🏢 Agencies — client case studies showing what you did and the results
  • 🪴 Landscapers, painters, decorators — any visual transformation work

Step 1 — Turn on the portfolio

  1. Open your dashboard and click Addons in the left menu
  2. Find the Portfolio card
  3. Click Enable
In a few seconds, your site has a /portfolio/ page with a "Portfolio" link added to your menu. Right now it says "no projects yet" — let's fix that.

(Free — included with your subscription.)

What a portfolio item looks like

Each project gets its own page on your site. The format is:

  • 📛 Title — what the project was (e.g. "Kitchen Renovation — The Martinez Family")
  • 📝 Description — a paragraph or two about the project: what they wanted, what you did, how it turned out
  • 🖼️ Cover photo — a single hero image that represents the project
  • 📷 Additional photos — before/after shots, detail close-ups, etc.
Visitors see all your projects on the /portfolio/ page as a grid of cover photos. Clicking one opens the full project page.

Step 2 — Add your projects

Two ways depending on what you have:

If you have projects on an old website

Use the import feature — see Adding Portfolio Items for the bulk-import walkthrough. Faster than rebuilding from scratch.

If you're starting fresh

Add them one at a time:

  1. In your dashboard, click AddonsManage on the Portfolio card
  2. Click Add Project
  3. Fill in title, description, upload photos
  4. Click Publish
See Adding Portfolio Items for tips on writing descriptions that actually convince people to call.

Common questions

"How many projects should I have?"
3-5 is enough to look credible. More than 10 starts to feel impressive. Don't pad with low-quality projects to inflate the count — quality beats quantity.

"Can I have categories or tags?"
Not currently — every project shows up in one big grid. If you really need to organize (residential vs. commercial, say), email us and tell us your case; if multiple people ask, we'll add it.

"What about client privacy / NDAs?"
For projects under NDA, anonymize the client. "A major retail chain" instead of "Walmart", no recognizable photos, focus on what you did and the result without identifying details.

"Can I remove a project later?"
Yes. Click into the project from the portfolio management page → Delete. No charge.
